The Public Safety and Security around Dams Course is designed for all security and dam industry professionals and any dam and hydro power professionals with a requirement to manage public safety and security for dam and, or water retention structures.  The three-day course will offer an in-depth review of the requirements for public safety and security programs and assessments. It will also offer instruction on public safety and physical security concepts and technologies as well as the integration of the process. Included will be site visits to Loudoun Water's Beaver and Goose Creek Dams as part of the practical exercise component.


COURSE OUTLINE and AGENDA


Course Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

List the categories and functions of public safety and security techniques for dams.

  • Understand the legal responsibilities and the potential risks associated with dams.
  • Describe the policy, planning, and procedure development process required to support a public safety and security program
  • Reference the DHS Dams Sector Security Guidelines and their application to support public safety.
  • Conduct and complete a security and public safety assessment of a dam.
  • Understand the components of a successful public safety program.
  • Identify hazards and vulnerabilities associated with dams and categorize, measure associated risks, and mitigate the risks.
  • Take a joint approach to manage and mitigate security and public safety threats
TRAINING LEVEL:  INTERMEDIATE 1.98 CEUs and 19.8 PDHs

  Registration is now open, and is limited to 40 participants.

LODGING AND TRANSPORTATION

Lodging and transportation arrangements are the responsibility of the participant. There is no room block reserved for this workshop. Washington Dulles Airport is the closest airport, approximately 5 miles from Ashburn. Several nearby hotels offer airport shuttles and rates range from $89 - $197 per night; nearby hotels.
